ARTFUL THINGS

Art expressions by Paulette Blake

Light on Painting

WHO I AM

My artistic passion started with photography and painting, capturing views of the world around us, both in nature and the integration of nature and architecture.  Over time, I have become more interested in painting using multiple mediums however my medium of choice is oil.

As I grow as an artist, I find that I am drawn to art that brings in the intensity of light and dark through vivid color.  My passion for the outdoors and the beauty that is all around us drive my choice of subjects.  The moment and the emotion my vision evokes inspires me to create art with contemporary impressionism that sometimes stretches into the very abstract.   I believe that art is not always what you actually see but what you perceive and emotionally feel in the moment.

MY ARTISTIC VALUES

As an artist, my skills and experience developed include both formal and informal training.  I believe that we are all capable of learning something new everyday.  Starting each day with that idea,  gives me the opportunity to push my artistic boundaries, and gain strength as an artist.  Van Gogh once said about color "One can speak poetry just by arranging colors well".  There is something about the harmony of colors on a canvas all working together to create the magic of art.  Pushing my boundaries within my works allows me to create not only a harmony of color but a vision of the world around me.

Have you ever seen a piece of art in a gallery or a museum and wondered about the title of it or been so drawn into the visual that you try to tie the title to the piece? A good deal of artists don't name their pieces because for everyone a piece of art could have a different meaning. In studying art of the great masters, I found the titles intriguing because upon first view of a painting I would assess what I thought was being expressed in the painting only to find out the artist had an entirely different intention...
